Packing for a trip used to feel much more stressful than it needed to be.
I would either wait until the last minute, overpack, forget something important, or somehow manage to do all three at once. And while travel itself is exciting, the process leading up to it often felt chaotic.
Lately, I’ve been trying to approach travel differently — simpler, calmer, and a little more intentionally.
Not perfectly. Just in a way that feels easier.
One thing that has helped me the most is starting earlier and keeping everything in one place. Instead of mentally trying to remember every little detail, I now use a simple checklist while packing. It helps me stay organized without overthinking it.
I actually created a printable version for myself that I now use for every trip because I wanted something clean, practical, and easy to reuse.
Nothing complicated — just a simple system that works.
A Few Things That Help Me Pack with Less Stress
Start Earlier Than You Think You Need To
Even pulling out a suitcase a day or two early makes a difference.
I’ve found that giving myself extra time helps me pack more intentionally instead of throwing random things into a bag the night before.
Pack By Category
Instead of packing room by room or outfit by outfit, I now group things together:
clothing
toiletries
chargers
travel documents
everyday essentials
It keeps things much more organized and helps me quickly see what I may still need.
Keep Things Simple
I used to pack for “what if” situations that never happened.
Now I try to focus on versatile basics, comfortable pieces, and only what I realistically know I’ll use.
Travel feels lighter when I don’t overcomplicate it.
Use Things That Make Travel Easier
I recently picked up a new suitcase after spending some time researching different options. I wanted something simple, affordable, functional, durable, and easy to move through airports with.
It’s funny how small upgrades can make the entire process feel more organized.
I'd like to share the link to the new suitcase I recently purchased from Amazon. This is a medium-sized, lightweight, suitcase. As we plan our summer vacations, I realized I needed a medium sized suitcase for those longer trips that can easily be hauled around and checked-in when flying.
Create Repeatable Systems
This has probably been the biggest shift for me.
Instead of reinventing the wheel every time I travel, I now reuse the same simple process:
checklist
categories
prep ahead of time
keep things minimal
It takes so much mental stress out of packing.
Travel will probably never be completely stress-free, but I’ve learned that small routines and simple systems can make a huge difference.
Nothing perfect — just what works 🤍
