Packing for Three Destinations with One Suitcase

How I'm Preparing for Seattle, the San Juan Islands & an Alaska Cruise—Without Overpacking
One of the reasons I'm so excited about our upcoming Alaska cruise is that it's really three adventures in one.
This isn't a trip where we're flying in, boarding a cruise, and heading home a week later. Instead, we're turning it into a longer adventure.
We'll begin by flying into Seattle, then spend a few days exploring the beautiful San Juan Islands before taking the scenic train to Vancouver, where we'll board our Holland America cruise to Alaska.
As exciting as that sounds, it also presents a unique packing challenge.
I'll be packing for city exploring, island adventures, train travel, and a week-long cruise—all while staying within airline luggage limits and trying not to overpack.
That's where thoughtful planning becomes essential.
Start with the Trip, Not the Suitcase
Before I even begin packing, I like to think about each part of the journey.
For this trip, I asked myself:

Since we'll be moving between hotels, trains, and the cruise ship, staying organized is just as important as packing light.
